Position description
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for lecturers in Spanish and Portuguese. Positions may range from 33% to 100% time per quarter (that is, one to three courses). Lecturer appointments will range from one-quarter to one-year time, with the possibility of reappointment, depending upon performance and programmatic needs. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower-division language courses, and upper-division courses if the need arises. The Program is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and service.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship. Please note that the Department cannot reimburse travel or moving expenses for interviewing or relocating to our campus, and that benefits such as health insurance are only allocated to full-time employees.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent foreign degree in Hispanic or Lusophone Studies, Hispanic, Lusophone or Applied Linguistics, or a similar field, and have two years of language teaching experience in a college or university.
Native-level proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is required.
Experience teaching upper division courses and/or Spanish for Heritage Speakers preferable. Experience in online teaching and learning, teaching underrepresented minorities and inclusive classrooms will also be considered.
